The Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court, during the hearing of a case, found that in the last two years, 1,08,300 people have gone missing in the state, in respect of whom missing reports have been filed. Of these, the police could trace only 9700 people. The court termed this situation as extremely worrying and serious. Also, an order has been given to file a PIL titled ‘Regarding missing persons in the state’.

The case will be heard on Thursday. This order was given by the division bench of Justice Abdul Moin and Justice Babita Rani on the petition of Vikrama Prasad. On behalf of the petitioner, resident of Chinhat area of ​​Lucknow, it has been said that his son had gone missing in July 2024, in this regard he also lodged a missing complaint in Chinhat police station but no satisfactory action was taken by the police.

On this, the court ordered the Additional Chief Secretary Home to take action on the information of the petitioner as well as to provide detailed information regarding the missing people in the state.

In the affidavit filed by the Additional Chief Secretary in compliance with the order, it was said that according to the information lodged with the police from January 1, 2024 to January 18, 2026, 1,08,300 people have gone missing, out of which only 9700 people have been traced. Commenting on this, the court said that the above figures show that the attitude of the concerned authorities regarding the missing people is lax.
