At present, the work of installing smart meters is going on in full swing in the entire Surat district, against which fierce opposition of the people is also being seen in some places. Amidst such an environment, this incident with a customer named Ashishbhai Chauhan residing at Keem raises questions against the functioning of DGVCL.

Regular meter Rs. 988 and Smart Meter Rs. 4351 bill came

Ashishbhai’s shop at Keem currently has only a regular meter in operation and the new smart meter is yet to be installed there. However, the power company sent him a bill for the simple meter as well as the smart meter.

The extent of this fraud is that, the bill of the smart meter which is not detected in the shop has come to 4,351 rupees, while the reading bill of the simple meter which is actually running has come to 988 rupees. Ashishbhai, the shop owner, who was getting two electricity bills from the same shop and that too with a difference of thousands of rupees, was very confused. When he approached the power company officials about this serious crackdown, the officials said it was a technical error.

Ashishbhai Chauhan said that, although I did not find a smart meter there, I received a bill of Rs 4351 for the smart meter. Now I have a regular meter there and I have received a bill of Rs 988. Now I was confused about which bill to pay, so when I went to submit, I was told that there was some error in the system. Even when I go to pay the bill online, it shows me that the smart meter bill is only Rs 4351 due.
