The Surat City Police has nabbed the mastermind who is the mastermind and ethical hacker of this entire gang, disguised 2000 kilometers away in the dense jungles of South India.
A robbery conspiracy hatched from Bihar’s Beur Jail
The police investigation has revealed shockingly that the Surat Varachha robbery plan was the brainchild of Kundan Bhagat, a habitual criminal lodged in Bihar’s Beur Jail. Kundan contacted his maternal uncle’s son Vikas Kumar alias Chandan alias Jack (resident of Muzaffarpur, Bihar) through ‘Signal Application’, which is said to be highly secure and encrypted, from within the jail.
Ethical Hacker Mastermind: Chandan, who commands the heist, is no ordinary criminal. He L from Surat. P. Have done Ethical Hacking course from Savani College. Having an understanding of digital networks and cyber security, he used all technical loopholes to evade police capture.
Surat spying with google map and fake id
Chandan came back to Surat in December 2025 and started living in a rented house in Hidayatnagar, Varachha on the basis of a fake identity card. Chandan had set the entire layout in mind by looking at photos of interiors and exteriors of several banks in Surat on Google Maps. The location diary of the security and traffic cameras of Surat Smart City was recorded, so as to escape from the cameras while running away.
7 deadly weapons (pistols and pistols) were ordered from Nandurbar in Maharashtra and soft copies of 5 fake ID cards each were kept in the phones of each gang member.
WhatsApp cloned from unknown old man’s phone
After the robbery, Chandan fled to Bihar. To deceive the police, he asked for the keypad phone of an unknown old man sitting on a tea kettle in Patna. He logged into WhatsApp on his smartphone on the number of the keypad and after seeing the OTP in the old man’s phone, he immediately deleted it. When the police reached the location based on technical surveillance, only an innocent old woman was found.
A live video call and a bag of milk
Varachha Zone-1 PSI B.D. The SIT team led by Mali was camped in Bihar for the past 20 days. The police took a friend of Chandan into confidence and made a video call to him. During this video call, Chandan was making tea in his room and held a bag of milk in front of the camera.
The Surat police screen-recorded this live call and found the name of the local dairy printed on the milk bag and the Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border address. During the conversation, the police also noted the landmarks of mountains and bushes visible outside Chandan’s room.
Khaki camouflage in the forests of South India
After receiving the address of the milk bag, the Surat police immediately reached the dense forest area on the border of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. There the Surat police disguised themselves as lorry drivers, local residents and laborers. After 3 to 4 days of reconnaissance of the hilly area, they found out the location of Chandan. Eventually, the police managed to capture Chandan and his accomplice Sanjeet in a strategic siege in the dark of night.
Recovery and search of absconding accused
Police have now seized cash worth ₹2,70,000 and 4 expensive smartphones from the accused. Chandan admitted that he had come to loot crores of gold but had to flee with only Rs 50 lakh in cash as he could not find the master key to the locker. Alex and Saurabh, the other absconding members of the gang, are suspected to have the bulk of the loot.
A total of 6 accused including Kundan Bhagat, Shubham Kumar Thakur, Vikas Singh Arun Kumar and Mitesh Kumar have been arrested so far, while Surat Police is conducting further investigation to nab the remaining absconding accused.
