Jamshedpur: With the sharp bowling of Mayank Mishra and Abhay Negi, Uttarakhand defeated Jharkhand by an innings and six runs on the third day of the Ranji Trophy quarter-finals and secured a place in the semi-finals. This is the first time in Ranji Trophy history that Uttarakhand team has secured a place in the semi-finals. Uttarakhand’s experienced left-arm spinner Mishra trapped Jharkhand with his spin by taking five wickets for 22 runs, while fast bowler Abhay Negi took four wickets for 36 runs, due to which the opposition team was bundled out for just 130 runs in the second innings.

Playing ahead of yesterday’s score of 282 runs for five wickets, Uttarakhand strengthened its hold on the match on the third day and took a lead of 136 runs in the first innings by scoring 371 runs in 122.3 overs. Lower order batsman Abhay Negi played an important role in giving a big lead to Uttarakhand by playing an inning of 46 runs.

Jharkhand team could score only 235 runs in the first innings. Jharkhand had a bad start in the second innings too and the team lost the wickets of both the openers Shikhar Mohan (02) and Sharandeep Singh (08) for 14 runs only. Captain Virat Singh (55) and Kumar Kushagra (34) added 86 runs for the third wicket but after losing both their wickets at the score of 100 runs, no other batsman of Jharkhand could reach even double digits. After 100 runs for two wickets, Jharkhand’s innings was reduced to 130 runs.
