10 runs were needed in the last over
Lokesh Bam (39 not out in 20 balls) performed brilliantly to keep Nepal’s hopes of an upset victory alive, but could not win in the last over. In the last over, Nepal needed 10 runs to win, but the boundary could not be reached for Nepal. Thus his brilliant performance with the bat ended with a close defeat. Sam Curran bowled continuous yorkers in the last over and Nepal team could score only five runs. Lokesh could not score any runs on the first and fifth balls of this over by Karan. Due to which Nepal team missed a big upset.
Nepal performed brilliantly
But still more than 17,000 fans were present at Wankhede Stadium and they saw Nepal perform much better than their potential. Captain Rohit Paudel (39), Deependra Singh Airi (39), Kushal Bhurtel (29) and Lokesh Basam (four fours, two sixes) showed great spirit but they could not lead their team to victory.
When Nepal needed 46 runs in the last three overs, Bam batted brilliantly. He hit two sixes in the 18th over of Joffra Archer and two consecutive fours in the 19th over of Luke Wood. Bhurtel scored quickly in the beginning while a strong 82-run partnership between Paudel and Airi for the third wicket gave Nepal a boost.
England had scored 184 runs
Earlier, England scored a strong score of 184 runs for seven wickets with half-centuries from captain Harry Brook (53 runs) and Jacob Bethel (55 runs). Young left-handed batsman Bethel performed brilliantly in his T20 World Cup debut with a quick half-century. He hit four sixes and the same number of fours in 35 balls. Captain Brook was out after playing an important innings of 32 balls with the help of four fours and three sixes. He made a partnership of 71 runs for the fourth wicket with Bethel.
