After the 60-day ceasefire agreement between the US and Iran, 11 ships carrying crude oil and fertilizer have left safely after the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, the Ministry of External Affairs has given major details.
US Iran Peace Treaty Updates: Amidst the long-standing tension and conflict in West Asia (Middle East), India has come with great relief news. After the historic peace agreement (MoU) was signed between America (US) and Iran, the Strait of Hormuz, considered very important for global trade, has been reopened. As soon as this blockade is lifted, 11 important ships coming to India have safely left this route.
Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal gave the official details in this regard in a media briefing held on Tuesday. He said that the situation is being continuously monitored and currently 10 other Indian-flagged ships are still in the Persian Gulf region, while two more ships have arrived there recently.
Major global trade route opens after 60-day ceasefire
It is worth mentioning that the Strait of Hormuz has become the center of war and tension between America and Iran. This is the same sea route through which about 20 percent of the total oil supplied to the entire world passes. However, the matter has settled down with the two countries agreeing on a 60-day ceasefire. Under the agreement, America has decided to lift its blockade from Hormuz, on the other hand, Iran is also ready to reopen this international waterway. Since the MoU was signed on June 17, the movement of ships has already started.
What is special about these 11 ships coming to India?
A spokesman for the Ministry of External Affairs gave a detailed account of the ships and their cargoes that have passed through this sea route:
3 Crude Oil Tankers: Each of these three Indian-flagged giant tankers carries more than 2,85,000 metric tonnes (MT) of crude oil, which is crucial to India’s energy needs.
1 LPG Carrier: A foreign flagged LPG carrier vessel has also successfully passed through this route.
1 Crude Oil Tanker: Another foreign-flagged crude oil tanker is heading towards India.
6 Bulk Carriers: These six big ships with foreign flags are loaded with Fertilizer Cargo which is very important for agriculture.
The rest of the ships will also cross the sea border soon
The Ministry of External Affairs has expressed hope that all the remaining Indian-flagged ships stranded in the Persian Gulf region will soon cross the Strait of Hormuz and proceed towards India. This peace agreement between the US and Iran will not only bring relief to the disrupted supply chain not only in India but globally and stabilize the oil market.
