According to a recent report by Google, 40 percent of the world’s Android smartphones (about more than 1 billion devices) are the targets of cyber attacks. It also has mostly old operating system (Android 13 or below), which has now stopped receiving security updates from the company. Hackers took advantage of these flaws and stole the data. For security, it is advised to immediately update the device or get a new handset.
Old OS becomes weapon of hackers
The report suggests that smartphones running Android 13 or older are no longer safe. Smartphone companies release security patches only for a certain period of time, usually 3 to 5 years. Once support ends, bugs in the phone’s software remain open, which hackers can take advantage of to insert malware or spyware into your phone.

How many phones are on which Android version?
According to the data available till December, only 7.5% of smartphones worldwide are running on Android 16. Whereas 19.3% devices are working on Android 15, 17.9% Android 14 and 13.9% smartphones are working on Android 13. This means that a large number of users are still using the old Android OS and are not getting security updates on time.
