BharatGen, a special scheme of the Government of India, is now in its final stages. Union Minister Jitendra Singh told in the Rajya Sabha that by the end of this month this AI system will be able to write in all the 22 official languages of India. The special thing is that the facility for writing as well as speaking and recognizing pictures has been developed in 15 of these languages. It is noteworthy that BharatGen was launched in October 2024. This is a major project of the government, under which a sovereign AI model is being developed for India.
BharatZen will be ready to write in all 22 official languages of India by the end of this month. So far, work has been completed on 15 languages, which include the ability to write as well as speak and recognize photos and videos. Going forward, local dialects will also be included in it so that it continues to improve with time.
What is Bharatzen AI?
- bharatzen It is a completely indigenously developed multimodal Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) system. Its real objective is to promote Indian languages in the internet world. This system will mainly do three things. In this, Speech-to-Text, Text-to-Speech and India’s first document-vision model named Patram has also been prepared. All these models together form a complete AI system working on text, voice and documents.
- BharatGen has been developed under the leadership of IIT Bombay in collaboration with many leading institutes like IIT Madras, Kanpur, Hyderabad and Indore. This AI model has been trailed by a text model with approximately 300 crore parameters.
- BharatGen is also getting support from IBM, Zoho, NASSCOM, Ministry of Water and Sanitation and many state governments. Recently, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has given additional support of ₹1,058 crore to this project under the India AI Mission.
Why is Bharatgen special for the common man?
BharatGen can help citizens in many ways, for which different usage-based features have been introduced in it. For example, ‘Krishi Sathi’ lets farmers get farming advice in their local language, while ‘e-VikraAI’ helps small shopkeepers create great descriptions of their products. Along with this, a platform like ‘Docbodh’ makes difficult legal or government documents simple enough for the common man to understand. All these experiments show that the use of AI will not be limited to big cities only, but it will make public services accessible to every village.
information given in the house
Answering a question from BJP leader Bhuvneshwar Kalita, Minister Jitendra Singh said that the Government of India is creating an AI system which will be completely indigenous i.e. ‘Made in India’. This will not only keep your information (data) safe, but it will also have a glimpse of Indian culture and ways.
Preparation completed in 15 languages
Jitendra Singh said, “We have completed the work of 15 languages. By the end of this month, the writing facility will be available in all 22 official languages. Besides, these speech and vision modules will also be available in 15 languages.” Let us tell you that BharatGen AI will have direct competition with AI platforms like ChatGPT and Google Gemini.
The government believes that BharatGen will be of great help in education, governance, digital services and connecting common citizens with technology in their own language. This project is being considered an important step towards making India a strong and self-reliant player in the global AI sector.
