Latest research from LinkedIn shows that in 2026, 74 percent of recruiters in India are struggling to find qualified candidates. This situation has come to light at a time when the hiring activity in the country is about 40 percent more than the pre-pandemic level.
According to reports, recruiters are receiving more job applications than ever before, but many of them are of no use. More than half of the recruiters say that the problem has increased due to the increase in the number of Artificial Intelligence (AI) generated applications. These applications look professional, but often do not accurately reflect the candidate’s true skills.
Difficult to identify the right candidate
LinkedIn said in the research that almost half of the recruiters believe that it is taking a lot of time to sort out fake or low quality applications. This is slowing down the hiring process and making decisions quickly. According to research, since 2022 the number of applicants coming to every job post has more than doubled. 72 percent of professionals are looking for a new job, but 85 percent admit that they feel unprepared for the hiring process.
Recruiters are taking help of AI
Amidst these pressures, recruiters themselves are increasingly adopting AI tools. 71 percent of recruiters using AI in India say that it has helped them find skilled candidates who they might have otherwise ignored. At the same time, 80 percent believe that AI has made it easier to understand the real potential of the candidates and has made the hiring process faster.
The role of AI will increase further
According to the report, about 80 percent of recruiters are planning to increase the use of AI in tasks like screening, candidate review and talent search this year. LinkedIn is also introducing AI-based salary and notice period filters, faster shortlisting tools and new solutions for small businesses in India.
According to Ruchi Anand, Asia Pacific vice president of LinkedIn Talent Solutions, hiring is now shifting from degrees or company names to actual skills and capabilities. He said that doing this on a large scale is difficult without AI and if used responsibly, it can make the recruitment process more fair and effective.
