Today History 7 Feb, What is today: On this day the world saw India’s strength in the sea. The first indigenous submarine INS Shalki was inducted into the Indian Navy on this day. This was one of the major achievements of self-reliant India. It had shown the world how much India had progressed in submarine technology in just a few years after gaining independence in 1947 and that it could handle it itself. There are many other incidents recorded in the history of 7th February. 1856: The East India Company dethroned Nawab Wajid Ali Shah of Awadh (now Central Uttar Pradesh) on 7 February 1856 and Awadh was added to the East India Company. 1898: Ramabai Bhimrao Ambedkar, wife of Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, was born on 7 February 1898 in Dabhol, Maharashtra.
1904: One of the largest fire incidents in American history. Today, more than 1500 buildings were burnt in the fire that broke out in Baltimore.
1904: Revolutionary and writer Manmathanath Gupta was born on this day in Varanasi. He was one of the Indian freedom fighters and revolutionaries. He was also involved in the famous Kakori incident of 1925. At that time his age was only 17 years.
1931: Motilal Nehru, father of India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and freedom fighter, died on 7 February 1931.
1939: Palestine Conference begins in London. Prime Minister Chamberlain requested a reconciliation between the Jews and the Arab representatives.
1962: President John F. Kennedy imposed a complete trade embargo on Cuba.
1964: British music band The Beatles arrive in America. Crores of people watched his show.
1969: Al Fatah leader Yasser Arafat became president of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).
1974: Grenada got independence from Britain.
1983: Establishment of Eastern News Agency in Calcutta.
1986: Due to political instability, Haiti’s President Jean-Claude Duvalier fled to France with America’s help.
1989: Bjorn Borg, the uncrowned king of the tennis world, attempted suicide in Milan.
1992: India’s first indigenous submarine INS Shalki was inducted into the Indian Navy. This was a big achievement in the direction of self-reliant India, long before ‘Make in India’.
1999: A few hours after the death of King Hussein of Jordan, his son Abdullah became the ruler of the country.
2005: Britain’s Ellen MacArthur circumnavigated the world in her yacht in record time.
