Omkar told how initially many companies did not sponsor him even after doing good work. But he continued applying for new jobs and eventually got a job at a place that also offered sponsorship. He told, ‘My first company refused to sponsor me and I was also told the last date of the job. I drank that insult as a sip. After this I got another job and then told the existing companies that I was leaving their job in two months. He was very surprised.

Omkar further said, ‘After this I started working in another company, where I was doing very well. The company was also happy with me. But when it came to H-1B sponsorship, he refused. I was disappointed, but then I decided to move on. Then I searched for a job for four months and got a job in a company. This company sponsored my H-1B. But this whole journey lasted for six-seven years, then somewhere I traveled from H-1B visa to I-40. Receiving I-40 means the company is sponsoring the worker for a green card.

He told, ‘During this time, I saw other companies only as a ladder on which I climbed to reach here. Therefore, while working on OPT or STEM-OPT, you have to find a company in America which will not only get you H-1B visa but will also process the green card. If you have both these things, then you have won 80 percent of the game. In the beginning you have to work even at low salary. Be prepared for this sacrifice. Once the journey to green card is completed, then opportunities will flood in for you.

Omkar said, ‘Until you get this, you will live an unstable life in America. So if your company is not sponsoring you, do not tell them that you are going to look for a new job. Don’t react against them. Do your work as usual and then after coming from office, start looking for a job. Do the same thing on weekends also. Once you find such a company that is ready for sponsorship, then your future will be set.
