What did CBSE say about the new marking rules?
CBSE has notice It was released that the board has decided to start On-Screen Marking (OSM) to evaluate the answer sheets of class 12th from the examinations of 2026. The Board has taken this step to increase efficiency and transparency. However, the assessment of answer sheets of CBSE 10th board exams will continue in the old physical mode.
What is CBSE On-Screen Marking (OSM)?
This is the new digital assessment process of CBSE, which will currently be adopted for checking the papers of 12th board exams. In this, answer sheets can be checked on the computer screen instead of the old physical mode. After the examinations, the answer sheets of the students will be scanned and converted into digital files. Examiners or teachers will be able to check this digital file by opening it on their computer screen. In this process, marking will be done on the screen itself, marks will be added for each question and the system will automatically add over marks.
Benefits of CBSE’s new Digital Assessment Process (OSM)
- No totaling error: Will calculate automatically instead of adding and subtracting manually. This will eliminate totaling error.
- Answer Sheets Transportation No: There will be no need to transport answer sheets anywhere.
- No need for special exam centres: Teachers will not have to go to any particular exam centre. They will be able to check their copy on the computer screen while staying in their school.
- No verification required: By checking copies digitally, the need for marks verification will be eliminated to a great extent. Human resources will be less.
- Paperless Process: The on-screen marking system will be paperless and will benefit the environment.
- Time and cost savings: The hassle of transporting answer sheets will be eliminated. This will save time as well as transportation costs. Also, that time will be useful in checking the paper.
