Surat News: Exactly one month ago, the Amroli Police Station of Surat received an information that a thirty-year-old woman was going to commit suicide. On getting the information, the alert police team immediately reached the woman’s house. However, the woman was not found there. Hence the policemen reached the banks of river Tapi, where the woman was found sitting under severe mental stress. The police intervened in time and rescued the woman before she jumped into the river and brought her to the police station.

After the woman was brought to the police station, the police started interrogation. When the police asked her what had led her to take the decision to commit suicide, the woman became emotional and said that her husband used to beat her severely.

The police called the husband for questioning to find out the root cause of the incident. However, the information given by the husband took a new turn in the whole case. During the interrogation, a serious cyber crime was uncovered and the police sent a team to Bihar to search for the accused to arrest the accused.

Surat City Zone-5 Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Lakhdhirsingh Jhala said that our team took quick action and saved her life as soon as we got the information that the woman was going to commit suicide. However, when we interrogated her husband, the real reason behind the woman’s pain came to light.

DCP Jhala further said that the woman had befriended a person on Instagram. The man had somehow recorded a pornographic video of the woman and then started blackmailing the woman using that video. The accused threatened that if the woman did not accept his demands, he would make the video viral on social media. To increase the pressure, he also sent this video directly to the woman’s husband.

Suspicious of his wife, the husband felt that his wife was unfaithful. As a result of which the relationship between the two got strained and a situation of domestic violence was created. As soon as it became clear that the woman had become a victim of a well-planned cyber crime, the Surat police initiated immediate action. A special team was first sent to Bihar to arrest the accused, but the accused fled from there to Chhattisgarh.

DCP Jhala said that the accused has been identified as Arjun alias Montu Upadhyay. He is a semi-skilled laborer and frequently moves to different states in search of work. Based on technical surveillance, information was received that he was in Telbandha village of Chhattisgarh. Our team stayed in the village in disguise and mingled with the locals to gather intelligence. Finally we rushed him and brought him to Surat.

Police have registered a case against the accused under various sections of Indian Penal Code (BNS) and Information Technology Act (IT Act). He is currently in judicial custody.

Trying to reunite a broken marriage

Surat police also tried to repair the damage done in the victim’s personal life while the legal proceedings were going on against the accused. The police observed that the husband’s anger was due to misunderstanding and fraud of the accused. So the husband was specially counselled. The police explained the entire incident and made it clear that the wife was completely innocent and detailed how she became a victim of cyber crime.

These efforts of the police were successful. Realizing his mistake, the husband accepted his wife and reconciled between the two. Due to this all-round approach of Surat Police, a criminal came into police custody. A woman’s life is saved and a broken marriage is restarted.
