Jagran correspondent, PDDU Nagar (Chandauli). The dispute over dominance and rates for taking tourists on the sands of Ganga turned into a violent clash on Saturday. Five people were injured in a fight between horse-camel operators and sailors. There was chaos after the incident, while panic spread among the tourists.

Seeing the situation worsening, shopkeepers along the ghat closed their shops out of fear. The matter remained entangled in border dispute. When the victims went to Varanasi, they were sent to Chandauli. Later, Mughalsarai police registered a case against 20 people including six named.

There is tension regarding the rate for taking tourists on the sand.

For a long time there was a tussle going on between the two parties regarding fixing the rate for taking tourists on the sand across the Ganga. The sailors allege that the horse-camel operators were arbitrarily charging more money. There was an altercation regarding this matter, which later turned into a fight. Horse-camel operators are mostly residents of Katesar village. As the dispute escalated, local people from their side also reached the spot in large numbers, due to which the situation became more tense.

Manjhi also got involved for the society

On receiving the information, people of Manjhi community also gathered. Seeing the situation worsening, the police was informed. The police of Dashashwamedh police station and the team of Sujabad outpost reached the spot. Somehow the situation was controlled. Later, the matter was informed to the concerned police station stating that it was of Mughalsarai police station area.

Police registered the case

In this case, the police have registered a case against 20 unknown people including Gopi Yadav, Pinkal Yadav, Mahadev Yadav, Baddu Yadav, Kallu Yadav, Ramesh Yadav under sections of assault, disturbance and breach of peace.

Meanwhile, the President of Manjhi Samaj Sangathan warned that if the accused are not arrested then the boat operation will be stopped and agitation will be carried out. The administration has been demanded to fix the rates for riding on the sand across the Ganga and implement a permanent system so that such incidents can be prevented from recurring in future.
