Digital Desk, Lucknow. In view of the challenges of possible floods and excessive rainfall in the state, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday stressed on comprehensive preparations and effective coordination. He said that the better the preparation, the more quickly and successfully the challenge can be resolved. While doing a detailed review of pre-flood/flood management, the Chief Minister termed timely repair, strengthening and monitoring of all embankments, drains and sensitive places as essential. He directed that vigilance, coordination and completing the work within the stipulated time frame is the basic key to safe flood management.

In the meeting, Principal Secretary Irrigation and Water Resources told that the districts around Ganga, Saryu (Ghaghra) Rapti, Ramganga, Gandak, Yamuna, Gomti and Son river basins in Uttar Pradesh fall in flood affected areas. Analyzing the river channel and rainfall pattern, 18 embankments in 12 districts have been identified as sensitive this year, whose total length is 241.58 km. 19 embankments in 11 districts have been identified as highly sensitive, whose total length is 464.92 km. Advance security work is going on on priority at all these places.

It was told in the meeting that to maintain smooth drainage in rural areas, cleaning and dredging of drains is being done on a large scale. There are a total of 10,727 drains under the department, with a combined length of 60,047 km. Cleaning of many important routes has been completed and the remaining work is being completed within the stipulated time.

Officials also informed that the dredging projects approved for the financial year 2025-26 are being implemented district wise, which will improve river flow and reduce waterlogging in coastal areas. Along with this, keeping in mind the possible flood situation of the year 2026, new safety projects have also been proposed, the process of testing and approval of which is going on.

The Chief Minister said that real-time monitoring should be ensured on all embankments and barrages. He directed to further strengthen drone-mapping, water level sensors and coordination with the local administration. The Chief Minister said that wherever there is excess of silt in the main stream of the river or the river is shallow, priority should be given to dredging and the river should be channelized. Only if dredging is not possible, then embankments or other anti-erosion measures should be adopted.
