UP News: ED raids Maulana Shamshul’s house in Azamgarh, took salary for years by hiding British citizenship

Jagran correspondent, Azamgarh. The ED team raided the house of Shamsul Huda Khan located in Adampur Mohalla Aziz Nagar of Mubarakpur police station area at 7.30 in the morning. About a dozen ED officials in four vehicles started the investigation after breaking the lock of Shamsul Huda’s two-storey house and entering inside.

During this time no one was allowed to enter the locality, the ED team interrogated the nearby people about the land on which the house was built. The team also measured the boundary of the house with a tape measure. During this time, the local people could also hear the sound of something being broken inside the house.

Local people told that the house has been locked for about 20 to 22 years. It was told that Madrasa manager Sarfaraz had filed a case of fraud on June 6, 2025 in Mubarakpur police station against Shamshul Huda Khan, a teacher of Alia section of Darul Uloom Ahle Sunnat Madrasa Ashrafia Misbahul Uloom Mubarakpur and resident of Raza Manzil, Mohalla Raza Nagar of Sant Kabir Nagar district, who had taken salary for almost five years by hiding his British citizenship.

Let us tell you that Maulana Shamsul Huda Khan was resident in Britain since 2007 and in the year 2013, he renounced Indian citizenship and assumed British citizenship. Despite this, till the year 2017, he continued to work as a teacher of Aliya section in Madrasa Darul Uloom Ahle Sunnat Madrasa Ashrafia Misbahul, Azamgarh and during this time he kept taking government salary.

Later he was also paid pension. The investigation revealed that Shamsul Huda Khan collected money from abroad and sent it to India under the guise of running a madrasa, for which NGOs like Kulliyatur Banatir Razaviya Educational and Welfare Society of Sant Kabir Nagar and Raza Foundation were used.

This case was investigated by a committee constituted by the district administration from 2007 to 2017 on the complaint of Karim Khan, a relative of Shamsul Huda Khan. In which the report of the investigation conducted against the then officials of the Minority Department was sent to the government.

In which it was mentioned that the then Joint Director Sheshnath Pandey posted in Azamgarh, District Minority Welfare Officer Sahitya Nirshay Singh (currently posted in Ghaziabad), the then Staff Lalman (currently DMO Bareilly) and Prabhat Kumar (currently posted in District Minority Welfare Officer Amethi).
