name of shoaib akhtar
The career of Shoaib Akhtar, the world’s fastest bowler, started with controversies. In 1999, his action was considered suspicious for the first time and he was also banned. However, later medical examination found that he has a condition of hypermobility in his body, due to which his elbow bends more than naturally. After this the ICC gave him permission to bowl.
Saeed Ajmal banned
Saeed Ajmal was at the peak of his career when he was banned for chucking in 2014. The ICC’s biomechanical tests found that his elbow was bending more than the 15-degree limit on almost every ball he bowled. He improved his action and made a comeback, but his old hitting ability was gone, due to which he had to retire soon.
Mohammad Hafeez also failed
Mohammad Hafeez is one of those players of Pakistan who has been considered a ‘repeat offender’ of chucking. He was reported for suspicious action several times in 2014, 2015 and again in 2017. He was also banned for 12 months. Hafeez repeatedly improved his action and continued bowling, but these controversies significantly affected his all-round performance.
There was doubt on Shahid Afridi
Even in the early days of Afridi’s career, some questions were raised over his actions, although he was never officially banned. Early in his career, especially during 2001–2003, umpires raised doubts about his fast ball on a few occasions. The allegation was that when he tried to increase the speed of the ball, his elbow bent more than the prescribed limit.
Questions were raised on these bowlers also
In 2005, Shabbir Ahmed became the first bowler to be banned for a year by the ICC. There was a complaint about Mohammad Hasnain’s action during the Big Bash League in 2022, after which he had to stay out for some time to improve.
