New Delhi: In the T20 World Cup 2026, a very unique and unwanted record was created in the match played between India and America at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. For American star bowler Saurabh Netrawalkar, who was once a part of the Indian Under-19 team, returning to his birthplace Mumbai has been like a nightmare. Faced with the fierce attacks of Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav, Netrawalkar bowled the most expensive spell in the history of the tournament and broke the 19-year-old record.

The most expensive spell of T20 World Cup was recorded in the name of Netrawalkar.

Saurabh Netravalkar, on the basis of whom the American team was hoping to challenge the Indian batsmen on the Wankhede pitch, was badly washed away by the Indian captain. Netrawalkar gave away 65 runs in his quota of 4 overs without taking any wicket. With this, he left behind the record of 0/64 made by Sri Lankan legend Sanath Jayasuriya against Pakistan in the first T20 World Cup of 2007. Now Netrawalkar has become the most expensive bowler in T20 World Cup history. In this spell, Ishan Kishan and Tilak Verma also created pressure by hitting sixes in the initial overs.

Suryakumar Yadav’s storm in Wankhede

The start of India’s innings was very bad and at one time the team lost its 6 main wickets for just 77 runs. In times of such crisis, Captain Suryakumar Yadav was firmly established at one end. He completely destroyed the American strategy of saving Netrawalkar for the death overs. Surya hit three fours and a six against Netrawalkar in the 16th over, while in the 20th over he hit two sixes and a four, taking India’s score to 161. Suryakumar scored almost 40 percent of India’s total score against Netrawalkar alone by playing an unbeaten inning of 84 runs.

Netrawalkar tops the list of most expensive spells in history

This wash of Netravalkar has taken him to the first place in a list in which no bowler in the world wants to be included. He broke the record of 64 runs spent by Jayasuriya in a single match. Interestingly, Netrawalkar was given the toughest role in the team, where he had to bowl the powerplay as well as the final overs. When India were struggling in the middle overs, they were not put to bowl, which Surya took advantage of to build his innings.
