Pathum Nissanka’s century innings
Opener Pathum Nissanka scored a century for Sri Lanka. This is the first century of this T20 World Cup. He scored 100 runs on 52 balls and remained unbeaten till the end. Sri Lanka chased the target of 182 runs in the 18th over itself. Nissanka hit 10 fours and 5 sixes in his innings. Kusal Mendis contributed 51 runs on 38 balls while Pawan Ratnayake scored unbeaten 28 runs on 15 balls. This is Sri Lanka’s biggest run chase in T20 International on home ground. Marcus Stoinis took both the wickets for Australia.
Australia’s openers added 104 runs
Australia, playing first, scored 181 runs in the 30th match of the tournament at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. Openers Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh added 104 runs in just 51 balls for the first wicket. Even after this the team could score only 181 runs. Travis Head was out after scoring 56 runs in 29 balls with 3 sixes and 7 fours, after which the team’s wickets fell rapidly. The situation was such that Australia had lost 4 wickets till the score of 130. Meanwhile, captain Marsh played an innings of 54 runs in 27 balls with 2 sixes and 8 fours.
Josh Inglis made a partnership of 30 runs in 21 balls with Glenn Maxwell for the fifth wicket. Inglis was out after scoring 27 runs in 22 balls with 3 sixes, while Maxwell scored 22 runs in 15 balls. For Sri Lanka, Dushan Hemantha took the maximum of 3 wickets for 27 runs, while Dushmantha Chameera took 2 wickets. Apart from these, Mahish Tikshana, Dunit Velez and Kamindu Mendis took 1 wicket each.
