Amidst the clash with the Election Commission and election buzz, the Mamata Banerjee government in West Bengal on Thursday presented the budget for 2026-27. CM Mamata Banerjee has opened the treasury in the interim budget of Rs 4.06 lakh crore. From unemployment allowance to youth, it has been announced to increase the amount of financial assistance to women every month. Finance Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya presented the interim budget of the state on Thursday.

The biggest announcements in the budget have been made for women and youth. The allowance of ‘Lakshmi Bhandar Yojana’, which provides financial assistance to women every month, has been increased by Rs 500 per month. Apart from this, Yuva Sathi Scheme has been announced for the unemployed of the state. Under this, unemployed youth will get Rs 1500 per month.

How much money will you get now in Lakshmi Bhandar Yojana?

Under Lakshmi Bhandar Yojana, eligible women get Rs 1000 to 1200 per month. Now an increase of Rs 500 has been announced. Now SC/ST eligible women will get Rs 1700 every month. Whereas women falling in general category will get Rs 1500 per month. The benefit of this scheme is available to those women aged 25 to 60 years who fall in the EWS category.

Which unemployed people will get Rs 1500 every month?

Mamata Banerjee government has made a big bet on the youth just before the elections. Unemployed youth aged between 21 to 40 years will get Rs 1500 per month from the government. This unemployment allowance will be available only after getting a job or for a maximum of 5 years. Apart from this, the budget has also said an increase of Rs 1000 in the allowance of Asha and Anganwad workers.

When are the elections in West Bengal?

The session of the Assembly in West Bengal is going to end in May, 2026. In such a situation, there is every possibility of elections being held in March-April. Elections are to be held on a total of 294 seats in West Bengal. Earlier, there was a standoff between Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee and the Election Commission regarding SIR. The Trinamool government has also appealed to the Supreme Court regarding this. The apex court has sought reply from the Election Commission and the Election Commission of West Bengal by February 9.
