De Kock missed on the threshold of record
De Kock was looking in great form on the Ahmedabad pitch. He needed 61 runs to complete 3000 T20 International runs. He took the class of Afghan bowlers fiercely and scored 59 runs (5 fours, 3 sixes) in 41 balls. Just when it seemed that he would complete his record, while trying to play a pull shot on a flat ball from Rashid Khan, he was caught by Ibrahim Zadran at deep midwicket. Now he will have to wait for the match against New Zealand on 14th February to reach this magical figure.
De Kock destroyed AB de Villiers’ world record
Even though De Kock could not complete 3000 T20I runs in this match, he has made a big record in his name. In fact, Quinton de Kock has become the highest run-scorer for South Africa in the T20 World Cup. Earlier, AB de Villiers was on top with 717 runs, but now De Kock has taken this record in his name with 737 runs. De Kock has scored these runs in 29 innings at an average of 26.32 and strike rate of 134.24.
Equaling MS Dhoni’s world record
De Kock had achieved another big achievement during this tournament. He has reached par with the great Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni in terms of taking the maximum number of wickets as a wicketkeeper in the history of T20 World Cup. Dhoni had 32 wickets in his name in the World Cup, and De Kock had also touched this figure in the last match against Canada. In such a situation, they have a chance to make this record against Afghanistan.
