Scriptural and simple remedies
Simple remedies are suggested based on Markandeya Purana and Matsya Purana:
Chanting of the main verse: The best verse of Markandeya Purana for the elimination of Pitridosh is “ૐ Devtabhya: Pitribhyascha Mahayogibhya av ch. Namah Swahayai Swadhayai Nityameva Namo Namah.” should be chanted 108 times daily or every Amas.
Vrat and Tarpan of Amas: Every month Amas is dedicated to Pitras. On this day take a bath in the morning and face the south direction and give Ardhya to the ancestors by putting black sesame seeds in the water. Chanting ‘Om Pitrubhyo Namah’ or ‘Om Namo Bhagwate Vasudevay’ while offering water.
Srimad Bhagwat Lesson: Regular recitation of Srimad Bhagwat at home is considered extremely beneficial for the peace of the soul of ancestors.
Contribution: Donating food, clothes or black sesame seeds to the poor, Brahmins or the needy in Amas or Shraddha Paksha. If possible perform Narayana Bali Pooja.
Services to Birds and Animals: Giving roti with ghee to a cow, roti to a dog. Since the crow is considered a symbol of ancestors in the scriptures, regular chana or food should be given to them.
Lighting at home: Every evening, light a lamp in the name of the ancestors in the south direction of the house or in the paniyar, because the south direction is considered the direction of the ancestors.
