Riyan Parag becomes the captain of Rajasthan Royals
New Delhi: Before IPL 2026, Rajasthan Royals have announced the new captain. 24 year old young all-rounder Riyan Parag has got this responsibility. Sanju Samson has been traded to Chennai Super Kings. Because of this the post of captain of Rajasthan was vacant. Ryan has captained the team before also. Last season, when Sanju was injured, he captained the franchise in 8 matches. However, the team had 6 defeats and only two wins. Opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ravindra Jadeja, who came through trade, were also considered to be in the race for captaincy but the franchise expressed confidence in Ryan.

Riyan Parag 7th captain of Rajasthan Royals

Rajasthan Royals won the title while making their IPL debut in 2008. Since then the team has not been able to win another trophy. Before Ryan Parag, Shane Warne, Shane Watson, Rahul Dravid, Steve Smith, Ajinkya Rahane and Sanju Samson have been the captains of Rajasthan. Sanju has taken command in maximum 67 matches. Apart from Shane Warne, the team had reached the final under the captaincy of Sanju.

Ryan’s record in IPL

Riyan Parag was bought by Rajasthan Royals in the 2019 auction for Rs 20 lakh. He has been a part of this franchise since then. His salary this season is Rs 14 crore. In his IPL career of 84 matches, Ryan has scored 1566 runs at an average of 26 and strike rate of 142. Along with this, he also has 7 wickets in his name. Ryan has the experience of captaining Assam in domestic cricket. He has played one ODI and 9 T20 International matches for India.
