Heavy Rain Alert: Due to monsoon activity in the state and forecast of heavy to very heavy rains by Meteorological Department, the administrative system has been put on full gear. A holiday has been declared tomorrow in Surat and Navsari districts considering the safety of students as paramount, while all departments have been kept on alert by holding a high-level review meeting in Gandhinagar.

An important meeting of the Weather Watch Group was held

A high-level meeting of the ‘Weather Watch Group’ was held under the chairmanship of Relief Director Subhash Savalia at the State Emergency Operation Center (SEOC) in Gandhinagar to deal with the possible rain situation in the state. The main objective of this meeting is to have zero casualty. The meeting was attended by senior officials of NDRF, SDRF, Roads, Water Resources, Health and Energy. Each department gave a briefing of their preparations. Special emphasis was placed on continuous monitoring of current levels of reservoirs and dams and advance planning for release of water in case of overflow. In case of any emergency, the control room has been instructed to report immediately for immediate response.

Holiday in schools and Anganwadis in Surat district

Following the forecast of heavy to very heavy rains by the Meteorological Department, a major decision has been taken by the Surat District Education Officer’s office in the interest of the students. Tomorrow on July 8, 2026 (Wednesday) has been declared a holiday in all primary, secondary, higher secondary schools and Anganwadis in Surat Metropolitan area, all municipalities and rural areas. All school managements have been instructed by the DEO office to take note of this decision and inform the parents.

All educational institutions and ITIs also closed in Navsari

In Navsari district also, considering the severity of rain, an important decision has been taken by the district administration. Tomorrow on July 8, 2026 (Wednesday) all Anganwadis, Primary-Secondary Schools as well as Colleges and ITI Institutes in the district will remain closed. The system has instructed that online education work can be continued wherever possible so that the academic work of the students is not affected.

System’s special appeal to citizens

  • Navsari and Surat district administrations have requested citizens to:
  • Avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rains.
  • Be careful and be careful in low lying or flooded areas.
  • Follow only official government instructions and instructions given by Meteorological Department.
