Surat Rain: Thunderstorm-like conditions are being observed in South Gujarat since yesterday evening. Especially in Surat and Navsari districts, the public life of both the districts has been disrupted due to continuous rains.

Even in this, 7 people have died in different accidents in the middle of rain disaster in Surat, the district administration has declared a holiday in schools and colleges tomorrow as a precautionary measure.

Water situation at places in Surat, 4 to 5 feet of water flooded people’s houses in Kamraj

During the 12-hour period from 6 am to 6 pm today, the Rudra form of Megharaja has been observed in Surat. In which Kamraj in Surat received the highest rainfall of 403 mm (15.8 inches). Apart from this, 357 mm (14.06 inches) in Palsana, 311 mm (12.24 inches) in Surat city, 199 mm (7.8 inches) in Mahuva, 191 mm (7.5 inches) in Bardoli and 173 mm (6.8 inches) in Ambika.

Due to heavy rainfall in Surat since yesterday evening, the low-lying areas of the city have turned into bats. Waterlogging has occurred in areas including Wade Road, Udhana, Parvat Patia of the city. Also, traffic stopped as the railway tunnels of Delhi Gate, Varachha, Kim, Kamrej were submerged in water.

As the basement of the shopping complex near Varachha’s Poddar Arcade and Kim Char Rasta got submerged in water, shopkeepers are fearing widespread loss. In Kamrej too, several houses have been inundated with 4 to 5 feet of water due to the rain storm.

In Surat’s Katargam and Kapodara areas, there have been complaints of waterlogging at many places. An ST bus got stuck in the flood waters near Sarthana Jakatnaka and the passengers on the bus lost their lives. However, the fire brigade team rescued the passengers trapped in the bus with the help of a tractor.

In Navsari, 10 villages forming Purna river Ganditoor were disconnected
Due to continuous rains in Navsari district and uplands, the life of the people has turned into chaos. Looking at the rainfall figures in Navsari district today from 6 am to 6 pm, Navsari city received the highest rainfall of 262 mm (10.31 inches). Apart from this, 197 mm (7.7 inches) rain has been recorded in Jalalpore, 129 mm (5.08 inches) in Gandevi, 127 mm (5 inches) in Chikhli, 87 mm in Vansda and 80 mm in Khergam.

Due to continuous downpour in Navsari district, Purna river has become Ganditoor. The low-level bridge connecting Sopa-Kurel has been submerged, leaving 10 surrounding villages without communication. Apart from this, as many as 26 Panchayat-owned roads in Navsari district have also been forced to close due to the possibility of accidents.

Parineeta was struck by lightning as she rushed to soak in the rain in Katargam

As many as 7 people have lost their lives in separate mishaps amid the rainstorm in Surat. Rishita Mistry (22), a married woman living in Shukan Palace, Katargam, went to her rooftop to soak in the rain. It was at this time that Rishita was struck by lightning with a crash from the sky, in which she died.

In Rander, Azam Alam and Abdul Kalam, friends, returned home after a shower in the rain, when they were electrocuted while climbing an iron staircase. Due to wet clothes, both friends got stuck there and fell to their deaths.

Another such incident has come to light from Pandesara. Ram Suresh Pandey, Trustee of Sankatmochan Hanuman Mandir located in Police Colony, died due to electrocution due to short circuit. Also, a 6-year-old girl died of electrocution while climbing the stairs in Maan Darwaza area due to electrocution.

Another incident has come to light from Pal area. In which two children named Krishna and Shreya, who were drowning in a water-filled pit near Navkar Residency here, also died due to drowning.
