New Delhi: In order to enhance sports culture, Delhi Government will organize ‘Delhi Khel Mahakumbh’ competition. Sports and Education Minister Ashish Sood announced this on Monday. He told that it will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Rekh Gupta on 13th February. In the initial phase, seven sports – Kabaddi, Football, Athletics, Wrestling, Basketball, Volleyball and Squash – have been included.

More than 20 thousand players will participate in these. This Mahakumbh will be held for a month in 16 different stadiums and different venues of Delhi including different areas like Bawana, Vikaspuri, Najafgarh so that the youth of every area can get equal opportunities. On this occasion, Sood also unveiled the mascot of ‘Delhi Khel Mahakumbh’ named ‘Ranveer’. He said that Ranveer is a symbol of the energy, courage and sportsmanship of the youth of Delhi.

What rewards will the winning teams and players receive in individual events?

The Education Minister said that in team events, the gold winning team will be given Rs 1,75,000, the silver winning team will be given Rs 1,51,000 and the bronze winning team will be given Rs 1,31,000. In individual events, the gold winner will get Rs 11,000, the silver winner will get Rs 9,000 and the bronze winner will get Rs 7,000.

What did Ashish Sood say in his statement?

In a press conference, Ashish Sood said that the Delhi government has again given priority to sports and has resolved to make the capital the sports capital of the country. Since the previous government did not provide proper budget for sports, the children of Delhi did not even participate at the national and international level. The sports budget in the year 2021-22 was Rs 60 crore, in 2022-23 it was Rs 41 crore, in 2023-24 it was Rs 26 crore, while by 2024-25 it was reduced to Rs 26 crore. Changing this situation, the present government has tripled the budget allocated for sports and youth affairs to Rs 76 crore in the year 2025-26.
