The match was very exciting
Despite giving their all, the Afghanistan team faced defeat. Afghanistan chased South Africa’s target of 188 runs very fearlessly, in which Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s inning of 84 runs breathed life into it. There was huge drama in the last over of the match and due to the run out of Fazalhaq Farooqui on the last ball, the score became equal, due to which the match went into Super Over. The first Super Over was very balanced. Afghanistan batted first and scored 17 runs, which included big hits from Azmatullah Omarzai. Chasing the target, the South African team needed 11 runs from the last three balls, but Tristan Stubbs maintained his composure under pressure and ended the Super Over in a tie by hitting a six on the last ball.
Chaos in the second super over
Playing first, South Africa scored a huge score of 23 runs thanks to two skyscraper sixes from David Miller. Chasing the target of 24 runs, Gurbaz had raised hopes of victory for Afghanistan by hitting three consecutive sixes, but on the last ball, Keshav Maharaj’s cleverness worked and Gurbaz was caught out on the boundary. In this way South Africa registered this historic victory by four runs.
Who became the villain?
Afghanistan team could have easily won this match, but they made a big mistake in choosing to bat in the second super over. Mohammad Nabi came to open the batting in this over. Chasing 24 runs, Nabi played a dot on the first ball of Maharaj’s over. He got out on the second ball and walked away. Due to this, no runs were scored on the first two balls and Afghanistan needed 4 sixes on the last 4 balls. Even after using all his strength, Gurbaz missed.
