A Bengali craftsman absconded with gold and diamonds worth Rs 30.42 lakh in just 30 seconds from the factory of Samda Jewels in Mahidharpura, Surat. As the entire incident was captured on CCTV, the police registered a case and started investigation.
Surat News: The incidents of robbery in Surat district seem to be increasing continuously. 30 lakh was looted from a jewelery shop in Pandesara area some time ago. Now a sensational incident has come to light that a Bengali craftsman stole gold and diamonds worth approximately 30.42 lakhs from Samda Jewels in Mahidharpura area and fled within 30 seconds. The entire incident has been captured on CCTV.
A grand theft in a merchant’s workshop
According to information received, Pradip Kumar Maiti, a businessman originally from West Bengal, residing in Piplod area of Surat runs a gold and diamond jewelery making workshop in Mahidharpura area. Then on the night of June 16, the manager left for his home. So the accused artisan Sanjeeb Sadhya left the gold and diamonds in his locker. Manager Sudeep Kumar Das came the next morning and asked the artisan Sanjeeb to remove the jewelry and work.
Within 30 seconds, the artisan fled with Malamatta
Sudeep Kumar, the manager on the second floor of the factory, had some work to do, so he went upstairs. So seeing the opportunity, the artisan Sanjeeb ran away with diamonds and gold within 30 seconds. When the manager came down after 10 minutes, the workman Sanjeeb was absconding. Then the manager realized that the gold and diamonds were also missing. If the manager called the artisan, he would also stop.

The trader filed a complaint against the artisan
When the manager informed the businessman about this matter, he immediately rushed to the factory. If he checked the account. Accused Sanjeeb was missing gold worth Rs.11,65,540 and diamonds worth Rs.18,76,476. Hence, suspecting theft, the businessman checked the CCTV footage and found that artisan Sanjeeb was clearly seen carrying diamonds and gold.
After the incident, the businessman investigated on his own but did not find any success. So finally the businessman lodged a complaint with the Mahidharpura police. The police have registered a complaint and taken action to nab the accused artisan.
