New Delhi: In the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, the match was played between Pakistan and America in Colombo on 10 February. Off-spinner Usman Tariq was playing for Pakistan in this match. Usman Tariq took 3 wickets for 27 runs. He bowled well. But, there is a lot of uproar regarding his action. Some people are not able to accept his action. They believe that Usman’s action is illegal. However, India’s veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has also given his opinion on this entire matter.

What did Ashwin say on Usman Tariq’s action?

Ravichandran Ashwin tweeted from his official account on Twitter, ‘Ok, I want to clear it up as much as possible. First of all, whether Usman Tariq’s action is legal or not can be tested only in the ICC Bowling Action Testing Centre. Secondly, there is a 15 degree rule, within which the bowler has to keep his elbow straight. It is impossible for the onfield umpire to judge whether the bowler is bowling within the 15 degree mark or not.

He further wrote, ‘The only solution is real time competition testing tool. What is stated above is not clear. Things are unclear. It is not right to take advantage of this ambiguity and blame anyone. Ravichandran Ashwin further wrote, ‘If pausing at the crease is legal or not, here I think it is completely legal, because it is his regular action.’

Usman Tariq’s international career

30-year-old op-spinner Usman Tariq made his debut for Pakistan only in 2025. Since then, Usman Tariq has played 4 T20 matches for Pakistan, in which he has taken 11 wickets.
