Elon Musk’s statement has once again attracted the attention of tech lovers. Musk has raised the possibility of a future Starlink phone, which will connect directly to satellite internet and be equipped with advanced AI (NPU-based) capabilities. However, there is no hope of its launch yet.
What will be special in Starlink phone?
Although Musk has not made any direct announcement about this device, rather he has shared this information while answering a user’s question on X (formerly Twitter). Musk wrote in response that it is not impossible at any time. This statement alone is enough to fuel speculations that the SpaceX founders are indeed considering building a smartphone that runs on Starlink internet and gives users a lot more.

According to Musk, this will not be an ordinary smartphone. It will be fully optimized to run maximum performance neural nets. This means it will have Neural Processing Units (NPUs) that will power the AI features and tools on the device. This simply means that the device will be highly efficient in on-board AI processing, which will make it different from ordinary smartphones.
Satellite Internet and potential customers
Although Musk has not given much information about the hardware specifications of the Starlink phone, it has come to light that it will get satellite internet out of the box. This can be a big attraction for many people. Along with this, tech lovers are also speculating that this device will definitely be expensive, like Starlink service. But there will still be a niche market where there will be buyers for this premium product, especially in remote areas where traditional connectivity is a challenge.

X chat and privacy controversy
Just this week, Elon Musk faced a Community Notes fact-check on his own platform, X. This happened when he promoted XChat instead of WhatsApp and Signal citing WhatsApp’s privacy concerns. Musk had promoted XChat as a safe alternative while urging users to stop using WhatsApp. He had posted, WhatsApp is not secure. Even the signal is suspicious. Use XChat.
A Community Notes explanation was also added to this post. The note said that Musk’s claim was misleading. It said XChat provides end-to-end encryption, but it lacks forward secrecy, meaning a compromised key could expose previous messages. Additionally, it also states that the private keys are controlled on behalf of X and are secured only with a four-digit PIN, while metadata is collected.
