The journey of iOS 26 for Apple has not been as expected. Despite this, the latest data released by Apple has surprised everyone. Although the speed of updates is a little slower than in previous years, it is not as bad as was feared. The iOS 26 software update is reaching iPhones rapidly despite many problems. Despite many complaints related to battery drain, slow performance and liquid design, 74% of the recently launched iPhone devices are now running on iOS 26. Although this figure is slightly lower than the previous iOS version, the decline is not as big as was expected.
There were many problems in iOS 26 update
Apple was hoping that iOS 26 would be a better start after the delay of AI features in iOS 18. But after the release of the update, many users complained of some major problems. The most prominent problems were:
- battery draining quickly
- slow phone performance
- Difficulty reading text in liquid design interface
- Some other stability issues
Due to these problems, it was believed that users would be hesitant in adopting iOS 26.

What do the adoption figures of iOS 26 say?
According to the latest data released by Apple, out of the total iPhones launched in the last four years, 74% of the devices are now running on iOS 26 while 20% of the users are still using iOS 18 and only 6% of the users are stuck on the older versions. If we look at all the iPhones present in the market together, then iOS 26 is active on 66% of the devices, while iOS 18 is working on 24% and older versions are working on the remaining 10%.
iPhones launched in the last 4 years:
| operating system | adoption rate |
| ios 26 | 74% |
| ios 18 | 20% |
| old versions | 6% |
Slightly smaller than the previous version but not a big drop
If compared with last year, last year iOS 18 was adopted by 76% of the iPhones launched in the last four years, whereas its adoption rate for all iPhones taken together was 68%. Similarly, the figures for iOS 17 were almost similar. It is clear from this that there has been a slight decline in the adoption rate of iOS 26 but this decline is not very much and the new update is still being adopted by a large number of users.
