According to mythological belief, while satisfying the curiosity of Dharmaraja Yudhishthir, Lord Shri Krishna told the importance of ‘Vijaya Ekadashi’ of Krishna Paksha of Phalgun month. The glory of this fast was narrated by Brahmaji himself to Devarshi Narad. It is believed that this fast is ancient and most sacred, which gives victory to man even in difficult situations.
The most amazing incident of this Ekadashi is related to Tretayuga. When Ravana abducted Mother Sita, Lord Shri Ram reached the beach with his monkey army. Seeing the vast and fearful sea filled with aquatic animals, Lakshman ji suggested that he should go to the nearby ashram of Bakdalbhya Muni and seek guidance.

The sage told Lord Shri Ram that to overcome any difficult obstacle, the ritual of ‘Vijaya Ekadashi’ of Phalgun Krishna Paksha is the best. As per the advice of the sage, Shri Ram along with his army observed this fast with complete rituals, as a result of which he crossed the ocean and killed Ravana and got Mother Sita back.
