NEET UG 2026 Exam City Rules : National Testing Agency (NTA) has made a major change in the rules for choosing exam city in NEET UG. The option for candidates to choose four cities as per their convenience has been abolished. Now candidates will have to select the exam city for NEET UG exam as per the new rules. More than 25 lakh medical students will be affected by the new rules in NEET UG 2026.

Actually, NTA has released the information bulletin of National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET UG) 2026 for admission to undergraduate medical courses. With this, online registration for NEET UG 2026 has started from February 8, which will continue till March 8, 2026 at 9 pm. However, the online window for depositing fees will remain open till 11:50 pm on March 8. NEET UG exam will be conducted on the first Sunday of May i.e. 3rd May 2026 in single shift from 02 PM to 5 PM.

Option to choose 4 cities ended in NEET UG

The option to choose 4 cities in NEET UG 2026 released by NTA has been removed. Earlier, students had the freedom to choose the four cities where they wanted to appear for the exam as per their convenience. Could have done manual entry with minimum cross-verification.

What is the new rule for choosing NEET UG exam city?

Now while filling the NEET UG form, aspirants can choose the city where they live or where they are currently. NEET UG Information Bulletin released by NTA states that now candidates will have to choose the exam city on the basis of present and permanent address.

Cross verification will be done with Aadhaar

NEET aspirants will have to fill the correct address while filling the form. Because now the auto-system of NTA will cross-check the city filled with the Aadhaar of the students. For this, NTA has implemented Aadhaar-based eKYC and live photo capture for identity verification.

Why changed the system of selecting NEET UG exam city?

There are many reasons behind this. Choosing an existing and permanent address will make the allotment system simple and secure. This will make it easier to ensure that students get the exam center near their verified location. This rule will eliminate the concerns regarding irregularities regarding exam city and most importantly, the use of fake addresses will be completely banned.

How to choose NEET 2026 Exam City?

  • First of all go to the official website of NTA NEET, neet.nta.nic.in.
  • Open the NEET UG 2026 registration window on the homepage and complete the Aadhaar-based eKYC.
  • Fill the current and permanent address correctly.
  • The system will automatically generate a list of nearby NEET Exam City cities based on the given address.
  • Choose any three preferred exam cities.
  • Preview and submit the application form.

Documents required for exam city

For NEET 2026 exam city selection, candidates will need their Aadhar card. This is necessary for verification of permanent address. No specific document is required as proof of current address. Candidates should fill their current address carefully, as the NEET 2026 exam center will be allotted based on this information. NTA clearly said that once the exam city is selected, no request for changing it will be considered.
