Fernando Fernandes, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of British multinational consumer goods company Unilever reacted to the improvement in business in India. He said that the company’s business fundamentals in India are continuously improving. India is Unilever’s second largest market after the US and one of the most prominent locations for the company.
Growth in home care segment
In fact, in the fourth quarter of the financial year, Unilever’s home care segment grew by 4.7 percent. It has recorded volume growth of 4 percent along with core sales growth. According to the company, this growth has been supported by strong sales in India.
Fernando Fernandez said during Unilever’s earnings announcement for the fourth quarter that India has been a key contributor to this growth. Laundry and home care products recorded mid-single-digit volume growth led by improved performance of liquids, leading to highest ever market share.
Improvement in Brand Excellence Score in India
The company’s CEO said that geographically America and India are clearly the main markets for Unilever. Responding to a question related to development, he said, ‘India is improving both in terms of the economic background and business fundamentals, especially the strengthening of our brand equity. There is an overall improvement in brand excellence scores in India.
He further said, ‘We are especially increasing our share in home care. We have achieved that 40 percent of our business is in this sector. In the last report, we have achieved the highest ever share in this sector. unilever Hindustan Unilever, its Indian subsidiary, has achieved underlying sales growth (USG) of 5 per cent in the December quarter led by underlying volume growth of 4 per cent.

India is the second biggest market of the company
Unilever also said that HUL’s performance has improved after GST related challenges. Let us tell you that India’s share in the total global revenue of Unilever is about 12 to 14 percent and India remains the second largest market of the company after America.
