Priya Sachdeva Kapoor has filed a civil defamation suit of Rs 20 crore in the Delhi High Court against her sister-in-law Mandhira Kapoor Smith and a podcaster. He has alleged that his reputation has been damaged by the statements made in podcasts, interviews and social media.

Even before this, Priya Sachdeva Kapoor had filed a criminal defamation complaint against Mandhira Kapoor Smith for the same alleged statements. This legal dispute has come to light amid a family dispute related to RK Family Trust and property, which has already become a cause of tension between the two parties.

reason for family dispute

Priya claimed that Sanjay had handed over all his personal property to her in the will made in 2025. This claim has been challenged by Karisma Kapoor (on behalf of her children) and Rani Kapoor and the authenticity of the will has been questioned. Rani Kapoor has raised a demand in the court to declare RK Family Trust illegal and not transfer the interim dividend of about ₹ 28 crores to Priya. The court has issued notice on the petitions of both the parties and fixed the next hearing for March 23.

During the hearing, the bench of Delhi High Court advised both the parties to try to resolve the family dispute through mediation instead of exposing it publicly. The court said that by raising personal matters in public in the controversy, a situation like ‘washing dirty clothes in public’ is being created and this should be stopped.

Equally, the court said that wealth should not become a curse and all parties should move towards a solution through mutual understanding, so that family relationships and reputation can be saved. The matter is not only a family one, but also involves corporate interests worth thousands of crores of rupees, making the dispute more sensitive.
