There is good news for Indians traveling abroad. The strength of the Indian passport has increased. In the latest ranking of Henley Passport Index for February 2026, the Indian passport has taken a huge leap and has reached 75th position in the list of the most powerful passports in the world.
five notch improvement
At the beginning of the year 2026, Indian passport was at 80th position. Now it has improved by 5 places and has come to number 75. This ranking is decided on the basis of how many countries a passport holder of a country is allowed to travel without visa or visa on arrival. The position of the Indian passport has gradually strengthened over the years.
Singapore’s passport is the most powerful. Passports of Asian countries continue to dominate the world.
- First: Singapore is at the top of this list. Singapore citizens can travel to 192 countries without a visa.
- Second: Japan and South Korea are joint second, with visa-free entry to 187 countries.
America and Britain lag behind
Western countries like America and Britain, which once ruled this ranking, have now slipped down. America has now reached 10th position. US citizens now have easier entry into 37 fewer countries than Singapore. At the same time, Britain is at number seven.
Still behind the record of 2006
Even though the situation has improved compared to last year, India is still short of its best performance till date. In 2006, the Indian passport was ranked 71st, which was its best ranking till date. There are still many countries in comparison to which Indians get visa-free entry into fewer countries.
