The investigation into the Air India accident is ongoing. Meanwhile, a big claim has been made in an Italian media report. The report said that in the final report being prepared by Indian investigators, the cause of the plane crash has been attributed to the pilot deliberately closing the fuel switch. Italian newspaper Corriere Della Sera has made this claim in its report released on Wednesday, quoting its sources associated with Western aviation agencies.
Media report claims based on voice recording in cockpit
- The media report is based on the fact of the investigation report, which states that no technical flaw was found in the aircraft.
- Also, based on the voice recording in the cockpit of the aircraft, it is believed that the pilot himself closed the fuel switches.
- However, till now India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau and Civil Aviation Ministry have not responded to this report. Nor has this claim been confirmed yet.
- There is also no clear information in the report as to under what circumstances the pilot deliberately closed the switches. The main suspect in the report has been named as aircraft commander Sumit Sabharwal. Pilot Sumit Sabharwal also died in the plane crash.
- Indian Pilot Association and the family of pilot Sumit Sabharwal have already denied this claim and say that a deliberate conspiracy is being hatched to put the responsibility of the accident on the pilot.
- The Pilot Association and the family of pilot Sumit Sabharwal have demanded a detailed investigation into the aircraft manufacturer, the airline and other facts.

- In December, Indian investigators from AAIB went to Washington, where they examined the black box of the plane. In this, the maximum focus was on voice recording. Based on this, it has been said in the media report that a pilot deliberately switched off the fuel switch.
- American experts say that it has never happened in Boeing 787 that both the engines are shut down simultaneously and this can happen only intentionally or in the event of an accident.
- Investigation also revealed that first the left engine of the plane stopped and then the right one. Captain Sumit Sabharwal was sitting on the left side of the pilot seat and Captain Clive Kunder was sitting on the right side.
- The cockpit voice recorder revealed that a pilot asked ‘Why did you stop the engines?’ To this the second pilot replies that ‘I did not’.
