What is the difference between the prices of CNG and petrol?
Generally CNG is cheaper than petrol, but in some cities this difference is quite less. In metros like Delhi and Mumbai, the price of CNG per kilogram is cheaper than Rs 80, while in other cities including Patna, Lucknow, Jaipur it ranges from Rs 85 to around Rs 100 per kilogram. In metros, customers are benefiting more due to cheaper CNG, but in other cities, there will not be much difference from petrol which is worrying. Still, CNG is cheaper than petrol and it is definitely beneficial for the customers. The running cost of CNG cars is lower than petrol.
CNG gives more mileage
The mileage of CNG cars is much better than petrol cars. While in petrol cars you will get fuel efficiency of 15 to 22 kilometers per kilogram, in CNG cars it goes up to 22 to 35 kilometers per kilogram. Due to this, various CNG cars and SUVs of companies like Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors and Hyundai are sold well. In recent times, the sales of CNG powered SUVs have gained tremendous momentum and the bumper sales of Tata Nexon is a direct example of this.
…but performance will have to be compromised
Now when it comes to performance, petrol cars may be more expensive and give less mileage than CNG cars, but they are better in terms of performance. CNG cars generate less power and torque than petrol powered cars and this directly impacts the performance. In such a situation, those people who have to travel 50 to 100 kilometers every day in the hustle and bustle of a big city and their budget is also not high, then CNG cars are a better option, but for those who want performance and also highway running, then petrol or diesel cars will prove to be a better option.
