Along with improving connectivity, emphasis is also on reducing air pollution.
Delhi CM Rekha Gupta flagged off 500 new electric buses in the DTC fleet last Sunday. The move will help improve transportation and connectivity in the city as well as reduce air pollution. On this occasion, Rekha Gupta said that DTC plans to increase its total bus fleet to 14,000 by 2028. These electric buses will help in improving the air quality and transportation needs of the city. These are all air conditioned (AC) buses, equipped with panic buttons and many other facilities.
There will be 14,000 buses in the next two years
Delhi CM Rekha Gupta has clearly said that the government’s focus is on expanding public transport capacity and reducing pollution. He said that the government is planning to increase the number of electric buses to 7,500 by the end of 2026 and 14,000 by the year 2028. Delhi Government is continuously working on the mobility sector and has also signed an MoU with Bharat Taxi to provide remote connectivity. A new electric vehicle policy and an e-rickshaw policy will also be implemented in Delhi soon.
New EV policy coming soon
Rekha Gupta also said that the government is also working on a comprehensive EV policy to strengthen the charging infrastructure and ensure smooth operations. He informed that the pending EV subsidy of Rs 40 crore announced by the previous government has been approved. The government is also working on Pink Card and Mobility Card for women, so that public transport can be made more accessible and affordable.
