Nitin Gadkari on FASTag: News about Fastag keeps coming every day and this digital toll collection system is discussed all over the world. In such a situation, now the government is also making every effort to capitalize on this issue. Union Road, Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has expressed his views in the Parliament regarding the current status of Fastag and toll collection system.

98 percent people are getting money deducted from Fastag

Nitin Gadkari told in Parliament that till now 11.86 crore Fastags have been issued across the country and at present about 5.9 crore Fastags are active, that is, people are using it. These Fastags are being used to pay toll on National Highways and Expressways as well as State Highways. Gadkari also told an interesting thing that now more than 98 percent of toll collection on national highways and other routes is being done electronically, i.e. digitally.

Many benefits from electronic toll collection

In a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said that by December 2025, about 105 lakh ETC transactions were done daily. It is a good thing that people are using Fastag more, due to which the work of toll collection has become faster and the crowd at toll plazas can also be controlled. Gadkari says that with the electronic toll collection system, the average time taken to cross the toll plaza has reduced to just 40 seconds. Earlier this work used to take 12.23 minutes. This shows how easy and fast Fastag has made travel.

Annual pass also a hit

Expressing happiness over the success of the Annual Fastag service started from August 15 last year, Nitin Gadkari said that the Annual Pass facility started with Fastag is also becoming quite popular. Since the launch of this facility on August 15, 2025, till December 31, 2025, about 42 lakh annual passes have been activated and toll payments have been made more than 19 crore times. At present, about 25 percent of non-commercial vehicles are using Fastag Annual Pass. The Union Minister also informed that in the last 3 years, i.e. 2022-23, 2023-24 and 2024-25, a total of Rs 1,65,322.67 crore has been collected from toll plazas on national highways. (Source- PTI)
