Vadodara Wire-free city project: An ambitious project has been undertaken by Vadodara Municipal Corporation and MGVCL to make Vadodara city modern, safer and more beautiful. As part of ‘Gujarat Wire-Free City Mission’, overhead power lines of Vadodara city will now be taken underground. After the successful implementation of this project, Vadodara is going to become the first ‘wire-free’ city of Gujarat.
Key features and performance of the project
Approximately Rs. This hi-tech project will be implemented at a whopping cost of 2,060 crores, with priority given to areas like Vasana, Bhayli, Sama, Atladara and Akota in the first phase. Under this project, overhead power lines in different areas of the city will be brought underground.
As per the figures received so far, out of total 1700 circuit km HT network in the city, 1391 km lines have been successfully undergrounded. The remaining work is targeted to be completed by December 2026. Similarly, the LT network will also be undergrounded in a phased manner in the near future.
