Three Indians and only one Pakistani, ICC announces Team of the Tournament of Under-19 World Cup

Dubai: Young star batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi has been included in the ICC Under-19 World Cup Team of the Tournament. Two other Indians are also included in this. Apart from 14-year-old Suryavanshi, who was chosen the best player of the tournament after playing a brilliant inning of 175 runs in 80 balls in the final against England, his teammates Kanishk Chauhan and Henil Patel also got a place in the 12-member team. India won the title for a record sixth time.

Kanishk showed all-rounder game

Kanishk Chauhan made consistent contributions with both bat and ball while Heinil’s 11 wickets included a brilliant spell of five for 16 against the US. Three players from runner-up England were also successful in making it to the team, in which Thomas Rave has been made the captain and wicketkeeper. Rave scored 330 runs at an average of 66, including a match-winning century in the semi-final against Australia. Manny Lumsden was the most successful bowler of the tournament with 16 wickets. Ben Mayes also got a place in the team, who was the top scorer of the tournament with a total of 444 runs including an innings of 191 runs against Scotland. Mayes was just one run away from equaling the all-time record for the highest individual score in the Under-19 Men’s World Cup, set by Sri Lanka’s Viran Chamuditha four days earlier. Viran has also been selected in the team. Chamuditha scored 192 runs against Japan and hit 26 fours and one six in her innings.

Only Ali Raza of Pakistan gets place

Afghanistan’s pair of Faizal Khan Shinozada and Nuristani Omarzai were also selected in the team, who played an important role in taking their country to the semi-finals. Faizal scored two consecutive centuries in the tournament against Ireland and India while Nuristani took 14 wickets, with his best performance being five wickets for nine runs against Tanzania.

Australia captain Oliver Peak also scored centuries against West Indies and England in the semi-finals. Oliver, Pakistan’s Ali Raza and West Indies’ Vittel Lawes also got a place in the team. Raza took 13 wickets at an average of 13.92 and had an economy rate of just over four runs per over while Jamaica’s left-arm spinner Lawes took 10 wickets in five matches.
