Pakistan government had boycotted
Earlier this controversy started when the Pakistan government had decided to boycott the match against India in Colombo. After this order of the government, the PCB had refused to take the field citing ‘force majeure’. Pakistan’s move was to show solidarity with Bangladesh, which had refused to travel to India due to security reasons and in whose place Scotland is now playing in the tournament.
Answer sought from PCB
The ICC has taken a strict stance on this boycott and has sought answers from the PCB. The global body has asked the Pakistan board what efforts they have made to end the impasse under the rules of the tournament. Although the Pakistan government had allowed its team to play the World Cup, but had banned it from playing against India. This match is the highest earning match for ICC and broadcasters, hence there is a lot of pressure on it.
Sri Lanka Cricket also wrote a letter
On the other hand, Sri Lanka Cricket has also expressed its concern by writing a letter to the Pakistan Board. Sri Lanka is the co-host of this tournament and believes that if this big match does not happen, it will have to suffer huge financial losses and the image of the tournament will also be affected. At present, Pakistan team has to play all its matches in Colombo and Pallekele. In the beginning of the tournament, India started with a win by defeating America and Pakistan by defeating Netherlands.
