MGVCL completed 100 percent smart meter installation in more than 75 villages in Nadiad, Vadodara, Godhra and Anand Circle.
MGVCL Smart Meter: The Smart Meter campaign undertaken by Madhya Gujarat Electricity Company Limited (MGVCL) has been a huge success. MGVCL has taken a strong step towards a modern and transparent power distribution system by installing 100 percent smart meters in more than 75 villages in Nadiad, Vadodara, Godhra and Anand Circle.
More than 50 lakh smart meters are operational in Gujarat
Looking at the statistics of this achievement, more than 14.50 lakh smart meters have been commissioned in the entire MGVCL area and more than 50 lakh smart meters across Gujarat. Due to this digital transformation, not only the process of electricity has become easier, but the company has also achieved great success in reducing power theft and technical losses.
Smart meters will prove beneficial
Smart meters are proving to be beneficial for consumers in many ways. Now customers can get real-time power consumption information, recharge online and analyze their consumption daily and monthly. With this facility, customers can have more control over their electricity consumption. Also, through ‘MGVCL Smart Meter App’ all services like recharge, billing, balance check, alerts and grievance redressal are now available on a single platform on customers’ mobiles.
Financial burden on customers will be eased
Financially also, this plan is very attractive for customers. MGVCL provides a direct relief of 60 paise per unit to consumers who consume power between 11 am to 5 pm under ‘Time of Day’ (ToD) tariff. In addition, prepaid smart meter holders are given an additional 3 percent discount on energy charges, easing the financial burden on consumers’ pockets.
Thus, this campaign of MGVCL is not only a technological change, but has become an important means of empowering consumers and making electricity services more sustainable. Digital electricity services will be accelerated across the state by covering more areas under this scheme in the coming time.
