Senior IPS officer Mahesh Dixit has been appointed as the new chief (director) of the Intelligence Bureau. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sealed this important decision.
Who is Mahesh Dixit?
Mahesh Dixit, a 1993 batch IPS officer of Andhra Pradesh cadre, was serving as Special Director in IB until now. He will replace the current IB chief Tapan Kumar Deka. He is considered among the brightest and most experienced security officers in the country.
Role and experience in Kashmir
Mahesh Dixit is especially known for his work in Jammu and Kashmir. When the central government removed Article 370, he was the head of the IB unit in Srinagar. He played an important role in overseeing security and intelligence activities in highly sensitive areas like Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. His experience in anti-terrorist operations and internal security will prove to be very useful for the country.

His strategy has been very influential in establishing peace in the Kashmir Valley and meeting the challenges from across the border. Now that he will head an agency as important as the IB, the country’s intelligence capabilities are expected to be further strengthened.
