ICC Rankings: Surya gets ‘boostup’ before T20 World Cup, overtakes this Pakistani

New Delhi: A good news has come amid the controversy created by Pakistan regarding the match of T20 World Cup 2026. Indian T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav has made another jump in the ICC rankings thanks to the strong form shown against New Zealand. Surya has reached sixth place in the latest T20 batting rankings announced on Wednesday, leaving behind Pakistan’s explosive opener Sahibzada Farhan. Farhan (715 rating points), who flopped against Australia, has fallen two places and is now at number 7 after Surya (728 rating points).

Getting ahead of the Pakistani batsman in the rankings can be considered as a mental boost for Surya before the T20 World Cup. Surya, after a long bad phase in batting, has scored the maximum of 236 runs in 5 matches against New Zealand and has been chosen Player of the Series. He has scored 3 fifties in the series. Thanks to this, Surya again returned to the top-10 of the rankings last week.

Abhishek close to his all time best rating

Indian batsman Abhishek Sharma still remains at number-1 in the T20 batting rankings. After Abhishek, England’s Phil Salt is at second place, while Jos Buttler is at third place. But both these batsmen are not even close to Abhishek in terms of rating points. Abhishek Sharma has 917 rating points, while Salt has 834 and Buttler has 769 rating points. Abhishek Sharma is close to surpassing his all-time best rating. He had scored 931 rating points during the match against Sri Lanka in the year 2025, which is his best performance. At present, it is certain that it will be impossible to remove Abhishek from the number-1 position for a long time.

Tilak Verma lost one place

Tilak Verma has suffered a loss in the rankings after not being able to play in the 5-match T20 series against New Zealand due to injury. This Indian stalwart has now slipped to fourth place instead of third. Tilak has 766 rating points and is not far behind Buttler, which means a good game in the T20 World Cup can take him back to the top. Sri Lanka’s Pathum Nishanka (759 points) is at number 5 in the ranking, while Australia’s Travis Head (692 points) is at number 8, New Zealand’s Tim Seifert (683 points) is at number 9 and Australian captain Mitchell Marsh (663 points) is at number 10.

Varun remains at number 1 in bowling rankings

In the ranking of T20 bowlers, India’s mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy has retained the first position, who has 776 rating points. Pakistan’s Abrar Ahmed (748 points) has come at second place, who has jumped 2 places by bowling well against Australia. Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan (737 points), who was at the second position till last week, has now slipped to the third position, while England’s leg spinner Adil Rashid (710 points) has moved up two places to the fourth position.

Apart from Varun Chakraborty, no Indian bowler has got a place in the top-10 bowlers. After Varun, the second top Indian in the ranking is Arshdeep Singh. Arshdeep Singh, who took 5 wickets in the last match against New Zealand, has jumped two places to 14th position with 631 points, while Jasprit Bumrah (630 points) has slipped two places to 15th position.
