Main rules of Ekadashi Vrat
Mere fasting on Ekadashi day is not considered sufficient. On this day, it is considered auspicious to maintain chastity in mind, speech and behavior, refrain from anger, slander and negative thoughts and practice celibacy as far as possible.
According to religious beliefs, the Ekadashi fast is not just for one day, but is supposed to start from the night of the tenth tithi itself. Hence it is advised to avoid tamasic food and inauspicious behavior from the tenth night onwards.
Tulsi leaves are used for worship as Tulsi has special importance in the worship of Lord Vishnu. However, since plucking of basil leaves is prohibited on Ekadashi day, the required basil leaves should be plucked a day before.
The Ekadashi Vrat is considered complete only after performing it on the auspicious time mentioned in the scriptures on the Dwadashi Tithi. So performing Paran at the right time is very important and auspicious from a religious point of view.
