OpenAI, which has become a big name in the world of Artificial Intelligence, is now preparing to enter the field of social media. According to reports, the company is working on a social network where bot accounts will have no place. This AI company led by Sam Altman wants to make its platform completely “human-only”, so that it can differentiate itself from existing platforms like X (formerly Twitter), Instagram and TikTok.
According to a report by Forbes, this social network is still in its early stages and is being developed by a small team, which includes less than 10 people. The biggest attraction of this platform is that only real humans will be allowed to create accounts here. OpenAI wants to take advantage of the popularity of its viral apps like ChatGPT and Sora through this project.
OpenAI’s platform will tackle the problem of bots
The report states that OpenAI is considering including biometric identification in this social network. Under this, “proof of personality” i.e. proof of being a human being can be asked from the users. For this, Apple’s Face ID or World Orb can be used.
World Orb is a special kind of iris scanner, which creates a unique identity of every person through the iris. This system is run by a company named Tools for Humanity, which was founded by Sam Altman himself and he is also its chairman.
Bots have been a problem for a long time
Actually, bot accounts have been a big problem on social media platforms for a long time. These accounts are often used to increase the price of cryptocurrencies, spread hate content, or mislead public opinion. This problem especially increased on Twitter when Elon Musk bought the company, named it X and laid off about 80 percent of the staff. This also weakened the trust and safety team. Although Musk had launched a campaign against bots and about 17 lakh bot accounts were removed in 2025, the problem has not been completely eliminated.
Sam Altman has also expressed his displeasure
Sam Altman himself has been an active user on X since 2008 and has expressed his displeasure with bots several times. In September 2025, he wrote that AI-filled Twitter and Reddit no longer seem as real as before. Recently, while referring to the ‘Dead Internet Theory’, he said that now a large number of accounts run by AI have started appearing on social media. nstagram head Adam Mosseri also said in December 2025 that social media feeds are gradually becoming filled with “synthetic content”.
Identity will be different from Facebook and LinkedIn
Platforms like Facebook and LinkedIn use phone numbers, emails and behavioral signals for identity proof, but they do not adopt biometric identification. OpenAI’s approach may be different from this. However, privacy experts have raised concerns over technology like World Orb, as the iris scan cannot be changed and could pose a risk if it falls into the wrong hands.
When will it be launched?
At present, it is not clear how this social network of OpenAI will connect with its existing products, but according to reports, users can get the facility to create content like videos and images with the help of AI. Its launch timeline has not been decided yet and there may be many changes in it before the public release.
