The central government has taken a big step in Budget 2026 to strengthen the telecom sector. The government has proposed a total allocation of Rs 73,990 crore for the telecom ministry, which is about 38 per cent more than last year’s revised estimate of Rs 53,000 crore. The main reason for this increase has been attributed to capital investment in government telecom company BSNL.

BSNL will be rejuvenated with the help of Rs 28,473 crore

A large part of this budget has gone to the account of government telecom company BSNL. The government is putting all its efforts to get BSNL back on its feet. This time the government has announced an allocation of Rs 28,473 crore for BSNL. Scindia said that the condition of BSNL has improved a lot.

  • The average earnings per user (ARPU) of BSNL has increased from Rs 90 to Rs 99. Now the aim is to take it beyond 100.

  • This money will be used for purposes like spectrum cost, installation of new towers, better media connectivity and replacement of old batteries.

  • The government wants BSNL to regain its old shine and be able to give tough competition to private companies.

Internet will reach every village

A big announcement has also been made regarding ‘BharatNet’ project in the direction of digitalizing rural India. A total allocation of Rs 1,39,000 crore has been made for this mission. The government aims to provide broadband facility in every village of the country, so that the youth of rural areas can get new opportunities for online education and employment.

Electric Buses: 4,000 new e-buses will be operated for urban development.

Promotion of tourism: 5 Buddhist circuits spread over 6 states will be developed, which will give a new impetus to tourism.

Basic Facilities: There will be large-scale investment in the fields of health and education.
