Amidst the increasing influence of Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Central Government has taken a tough stance against its misuse. Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT Jitin Prasad advised to use AI with caution at the AI Impact Summit 2026. He said that misinformation spread through AI can harm democracy.
AI threatens democracy
Jitin Prasad said that deepfakes and fake news created by AI are becoming a big threat to cyber security. He told that in a democratic country like India where elections are held repeatedly at the central, state and city levels. In such places, misinformation spread by AI can influence the elections. He warned that if people vote based on wrong information, it could harm democracy. He also said that the government is making policies for the safety of the people but for this every person of the society will have to become aware and responsible.
Protection from cyber threats is possible only through digital literacy
Jitin Prasad said that in today’s time it is very important to have digital information. If people are not aware of digital technology, they can become victims of cyber attacks and misinformation spread by AI. Therefore, it is important for people to learn and understand about new technology and its proper use.

AI is useful in education but it should not be a shortcut
The Minister of State for IT said that AI can prove to be very helpful in the field of education. It is beneficial for both students and teachers. But he clearly said that it should not be used to avoid studies or as a shortcut. He said that AI should not be limited to just one subject but it is necessary to make it a part of the entire education system. Its objective is to increase the capabilities of the youth and prepare them for new technology. He also said that it is important to teach students about computer-based thinking and the correct use of AI so that they can use it in a correct and positive manner.
AI cannot replace teachers
Jitin Prasad says that AI can never replace the teacher. Some people believe that AI is a better tutor but this does not eliminate the need for teachers. He advised students to use AI to help them study but not to use it to avoid homework or as a shortcut. He said that if students use AI wrongly then it may cause harm to them in future.

India has great power of data
Jitin Prasad said that the government is working on providing secure and non-personal data to researchers, startups and Indian companies. This will help in creating new AI models and technical solutions. This can make people’s lives better. He said that data is most important for the development of AI. India has great strength in this matter because there is a lot and different types of data available here.
It is everyone’s responsibility to use AI in a safe and responsible manner
At the end of his speech the Minister said that AI is a powerful and useful technology but it is very important to use it properly and responsibly. He said that the government will make rules and policies but everyone including citizens, teachers and students will have to come together to ensure that AI is used for the good of the society and the country.
